Flashfill is used in Excel to identify a pattern and help in the extraction of data automatically. Often, we have columns that have recurring patterns. To get data from such columns, you can type them manually or use Flash Fill to extract data automatically.

Suppose we have a column containing the Name of students and the date they submitted their projects, and you want to extract the Submission date for each student; now you can use Flash to remove the date.

  • Drop-down List

We often have a predefined list from which an option will be chosen every time you make an entry. That is the perfect situation to create drop-downs. Let us suppose you want to select one among seven continents. Then, the process to create the drop-down is to list all the 7 Continents or any other items you wish to make a drop-down for. Go to the cell where you want to place the drop-down> go to Data ribbon> Data validation> allow the value as List and select the list source. Now you have your drop-down list.

  • Sparklines

Sparklines are tiny line charts inserted in a cell, providing trend analysis of the selected data. Sparklines depict trends like seasonal increases/ decreases and economic cycles, highlighting key points. Sparklines are placed next to data cells to have the most significant impact.

  • Slicers

Slicers are like filters. When a list is converted to a table, the headers have filters to find, sort, and filter out what you want and what not. However, applying filters can be challenging when you have a small drop-down and an extensive list of items. In such a scenario, it is recommended to use Slicers.
